MLB: Recap of the September 4 games in America

It was only a matter of time for Aaron Judge: The strong kicker hit his 53rd long ball of the season at Tampa Bay on Sunday, when the New York Yankees beat the New York Rays 2-1, setting a new personal record.

Judge capitalized on the game to beat his rookie season 52 points in 2017, while the Yankees gave themselves some rest with a key victory against Tampa Bay to breathe a little more slack from the East Americas.

After losing the first two games of the series to Tampa Bay, the Yankees saw their lead at the top of the division drop to just four games. With this win, they reduced their priority to five games over the Rays.

The judge wasted no time adjusting his pace. On the second court of the game, he sent the ball 450 feet away from the plate to open the score and set his new personal best.

The judge now has a 17-homer lead over his closest follower, Kyle Schwarber, who has reached 36 this season.

The Yankees doubled their lead in the 7th inning in a sacrifice flight from Oswaldo Cabrera, who sent the Judge home for the second time in the game.

Late in the 9th inning, the Rays tried to bounce back, but only competed with the Francisco Mejia single. Tampa Bay failed to tie the game and the Rays squandered their chance to sweep their streak against the Yankees.

Frankie Montas made a great debut allowing only one hit in five in addition to seven hits. He recorded his fifth victory of the season.

This Rays loss, combined with the Blue Jays’ victory, allows Toronto to narrow the gap between the two teams to just one game.
