This year the club extinguishes its forty candles and multiplies its projects: new site, teams participating in national tournaments, a new section created in September 2022, recruiting players…
Already more than forty years! The Buchy table tennis club near Rouen was created in 1979 by Claude Tocqueville. At that time, two tables were available in the Saint-André room, on the rue de l’Égalité. Currently led by president Nathalie Hartout and vice president Jean-Claude Cormier, the club has sixty-nine members, including thirty-seven youths under the age of 18. Training has been taking place at the Sivos gym in Buchy since 2012.
The club took advantage of the Covid period to strengthen ties with neighboring table tennis clubs. As part of the Ping Operation organized by the French Table Tennis Federation, “We have held many friendship tournaments with neighboring clubs”, David Tlustek, the club’s assistant secretary, reports. The table tennis players association has also set up a website dedicated to its activities and a Facebook page. “And we were awarded as one of the most dynamic clubs in France. On this occasion we received a new table, gifts and coupons. The aim of the operation was to give the club more visibility to find partners such as Caisse du Crédit Agricole de Buchy, who recently gave us a grant of € 1,000”.
A section for 4-7 year olds created at the beginning of the school year
For the 2021-2022 season, the club has several teams participating in major tournaments: “We have five teams of four players participating in the French championships, five duos in the Coupe de France and nine teams of two players among juniors”. And individually, François Pelletier and David Tlustek stand out among veterans. And the club confirms its dynamism by creating a new chapter in September. “Saturday mornings for 4/7 year olds as part of an initiation-discovery. Next year we would like to connect with the commune primary school to set up exploration workshops for CM1/CM2. On the other hand, we want to have the big sports hall approved by the league and organize division or regional competitions there.” Club wants to recruit more players “because that’s missing for us today”.
