August 21 MLB recap at National: Astros slow Braves rise

Marcell Ozuna was booed by Atlanta Braves fans on Sunday when he made his stick debut since he was arrested for drunk driving.

Ozuna was arrested early Friday and was released on bail that morning. This is the second arrest in many years for Ozuna, who was arrested in May 2021 for a history of domestic abuse.

Ozuna, the Braves’ eighth inning against the Houston Astros, was met with a handful of boos at Truist Park when he came to hit in the second half. The booing got even louder after Ozuna was pulled by the Astros’ right-hand man, Jose Urquidy. Ozuna was booed again after a hit against Urquidy in the fifth half. He was later replaced by Eddie Rosario later in the game. Ozuna finished the game with two goals in two games and the Braves were defeated 5-4.

Asked by many reporters after the match if he was embarrassed or motivated by the booing, Ozuna said his reaction was second.

“It’s a kind of motivation. “I don’t listen to what they say, I hold my head high and do my best.”

This match marked Ozuna’s first game since 14 August. He did not play in the first six games of Atlanta’s seven-game home series.
