30 years in prison for attempted assassination of David Ortiz

What a funny idea to shoot David Ortiz. At home, in the Dominican Republic, “Big Papi” is God with his smile and the silhouette of a giant panda – 1.90 m for a large fifth – with his stick in hand. Same in Boston, where he played fourteen seasons for the Red Sox and helped win three league titles (2004, 2007 and 2013). As a child, he stuck a needle in his sister’s doll’s head and shaved it to make a baseball. “If you can hit him with a broomstick,” he said, “you can hit anything.” In particular, balls at 160 km / h from Major League shooters, where the left-handed player terrorizes with homeruns with an outstanding eye.

On June 9, 2019, Ortiz was sitting on the terrace of the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo when Eddy Feliz, a gunman on a motorcycle, shot him in the back at close range. Ortiz is taken to the hospital as the crowd arrests the shooter, breaking his head and legs. The bullet pierced his body, his gallbladder and part of his intestines were removed, but the young pensioner was saved.

We quickly learn that Ortiz may not be the intended target. Another customer, Sixto Fernandez, was allegedly targeted by drug trafficker Victor Hugo Gomez Vasquez. In a photograph sent to the shooter, it was determined that he was wearing white pants. This would have confused him with Ortiz, who was sitting next to him and was masked by a white object in the picture.

Unconvinced by these findings, Ortiz hires a former Boston cop to conduct his own investigation. The latter concludes that the assassination attempt on the Red Sox star will be supported by another drug and Dominican night kingpin, Cesar “El Abusador” Peralta. Mobile: Peralta would be more “jealous of popularity and attention” He was welcomed by Ortiz at the bars and clubs he owned. However, the thesis of confusion continued in the country and as soon as the investigation was closed, the court gave its decision on December 28th. Of the thirteen who will be revealed, ten were sentenced to thirty years in prison for attempted murder, including the motorcycle hitman and an accomplice. The sentence leaves several questions unanswered, including doubts about Peralta, who is currently detained in the United States. David Ortiz, 47, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last July, is happy with the decision and will continue to comment on the Red Sox games on television: “I forgave those guys a long time ago.”
